Superstitiousness

It is Friday the 13th. No, I am not superstitious but... Ian dropped me off at the airport today so I could catch the 7am flight back to Perth. He would fly home in the afternoon after his last meetings are finished. But 20min. into the flight the pilot turned around and flew back to Darwin - bird strike :-( A bird got caught in the turbine and caused vibrations, so the engines had to be checked.
Back at the terminal we were told that the turbines needed more checking and that the flight was cancelled. So I had to spent the night alone at the Holiday Inn while Ian flew home this evening. I will have to get up again early to catch the plane tomorrow morning at 7am. Ah well, better save than sorry!!

Productive Stay

Despite of being up in Darwin I am indeed rather productive. I get up with Ian in the morning and we have breakfast together. He then leaves for work and I sit down at the table in our hotel room and start typing. And to my surprise I am really productive. I write about two to four pages each day, which is a lot! I should have come here earlier ;-) Anyway my PhD is on track and I am looking forward to flying back to Perth to a much less humid climate and into our lovely renovated unit :-)

Litchfield National Park

We used the Sunday to to more tourist stuff. Together with a friend we visited Litchfield National Park for a little walk and swim. It was a gorgeous day despite the humidity. And since no one else wanted to walk the 3.4km trail we had the little plunge pool to ourselves. Sitting in the water on top of a water fall, having lunch in the shade, the boys doing bombies - can't get any better :-)

On the way home we came past these magnetic termite mounds build by a special type of termites. The mounds are always north - south orientated

Crocosaurus Cove

First impressions of Darwin: hot and sticky! The temperatures are pretty constant at 25°C during the night and 35°C during the day and the humidity is always around 60 - 80%. Ah well, at least this keeps the skin nice and moist ;-) The picture on the left is taken at the beach in Nightcliff, a suburb north of Darwin, at low tide.

Secondly Darwin is famous and unfortunately also infamous for its crocodiles. So today we went to Crocosaurus Cove - a kind of zoo only for crocodiles and other little reptiles. We saw guys swimming in a Cage of Death and gazed at these killing machines. They had also litttle glas domes where we pocked our head through to watch the little baby crocs feed - really funny :-)

Trip to Darwin

I missed Ian sooooo much that I decided to fly up to Darwin to spent some time together with him. But I am also in the final stage of my PhD, so I will have to sit in the hotel room all day typing away. Yes, I promise I will be a good girl ;-)

Renovation Stage Two Updates

Ian is up in Darwin for work for the last two weeks, so I am reporting back to him about the stage of the car port modifications every night. I would come home from uni, pick up my camera, take a few shots of the latest changes and developments and then send them via email. And these are the pictures that I sent him the last couple of days.

More Digging

But this time it is not us but our builder who does the excavation for the footing of our new boundary wall. Phew! ;-)
